You might say John Legend is off to a pretty good start as a coach on The Voice.

Two artists — Maelyn Jarmon and Matthew Johnson — turned four chairs during Monday night’s Season 16 premiere.

Both opted to join Team John Legend.

And the new Voice coach managed to land three artists on opening night, even though Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson both used blocks against him.

Here’s a photo gallery look at who landed on which team during opening night on The Voice.

“The Voice” doesn’t air the blinds chronologically, so the singers introduced to viewers during the premiere weren’t really the first twelve auditions of the season. In the interview linked below, John Legend revealed that Adam, Blake, and Kelly all chose to block him during the first day of filming. Only one contestant actually joined his team on that date. The episode was probably edited to forward the new coach’s elevation.
