Blake Shelton said it makes no sense that Kendra Checketts and Kim Cherry are part of his team on The Voice.

So he paired them up for what turned out to be one of the best performances of Night 2 of the battle round on The Voice.

Kim, 30, of Boston, Mass., auditioned with TLC’s “No Scrubs” and turned two chairs. She fronts her own event band in Boston.

Kendra, 19, of San Diego, Calif., auditioned with “Sober” by Demi Lovato. Blake turned for that performance almost immediately. But no one else did, so she automatically joined Team Blake.

The song: “Here” by Alessia Cara
The feedback: Kelly Clarkson praised their teamwork and gave a slight edge to Kim. Adam Levine called them both superb, but said Kim showed a bit more power. John Legend complimented both of them on an excellent job.
The outcome: Blake declared Kim the winner, praising her infectious quality. Both John and Adam tried to steal Kendra. After hearing their pitches, Kendra opted to join Team Adam.
My take: Okay, who the heck picked that song for Blake Shelton? I’m pretty sure it’s not on his playlist. As for the ladies, Kim commanded that stage with a flawless performance of what seemed like a difficult song to perform. But Kendra certainly held her own. And the part where they harmonized near the end of the performance was especially impressive. I, too, would have declared Kim the winner. But Kendra got a well-deserved save.
