Kensington Moore, formerly of The Voice, released her new single Friday.

Kensington Moore did something Friday she never expected to do — sharing the sentiments behind her new single “Slow.”

The former Voice contestant explains that she’s always found it therapeutic to write down her feelings whenever she’s overwhelmed or super emotional.

“That’s how this song started,” she writes on Instagram. “Just a bunch of randomness in the form of a really messy poem. I had no intention of ever making my vulnerable, embarrassing feelings into a song. Like are you kidding me? No way …

“I said I was going to bed cause I was so fed up with myself and the stupid mascara all over my face at 11:37 p.m., and had a finished song by 1:01 a.m.

“There are tear stains throughout this entire notebook, and for quite some time, I couldn’t even read these words without crying. But that’s what made me realize how special this song really is.”

The music video turned out quite special too, thanks to dancers Malia Asahino and Chad Geiger and choreography by Amanda Cathey and Jessica Wolf.

Though she wound up crying the first time she played the song live, Kensington said sharing the song wound up being therapeutic as well.

“I never dreamed of exposing such a fragile piece of my heart to the world, but turns out it’s actually been the most amazing, healing thing ever,” she says.

Kensington was a Season 7 contestant on The Voice and “Slow” continues a string of impressive singles from her this year, following “I Don’t Like You Anymore” and “Not Ready.”
