Remember the days when an American Idol winner would release an album and it was pretty much guaranteed to debut in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200?

That really used to happen.

These days?

Well, it will be news when the next American Idol champ cracks that chart.

Maddie Poppe didn’t. Billboard finally updated its albums’ chart, and her May 17 release, “Whirlwind,” didn’t make it.

The album is number four on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. And Maddie’s latest single, “Made Me Miss,” jumped five spots to number 30 on the Billboard adult pop songs chart.

But “Whirlwind” follows Trent Harmon’s debut release as the second straight album from an Idol winner to fail to chart.

Before that, Season 14’s Nick Fradiani debuted at number 121, Season 13’s Caleb Johnson at number 24 and Season 12’s Candice Glover at number 14.

It makes it more difficult since Idol didn’t even book her to sing in the finale. That was a crappy move on their part.
