You’ll recall that Mark Hood was something of a dual threat when we met him as the very first singer to audition for Season 9 of The Voice.

The day after his elimination, Mark made it clear he’ll pursue both an acting and singing career moving forward.

He said his acting career was beginning to take off pre-Voice and predicted that we’ll see him on a TV show or on Broadway within a year.

Among the shows he’d like to appear in: “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Scandal,” “Empire” or a recurring role on the “Chicago” trilogy. After all, he is from Chicago.

As for new music, Mark said he was busy working on it while he was on The Voice and plans to release material as soon as he’s able. He said fans should expect “popular music with a soul/R&B vibe.”

Mark, 24, turned four chairs with his Voice blind audition, then turned out to be one of the most charismatic performers among the Season 9 cast.

He scored victories in the battle and knockout rounds, but needed Pharrell’s save to make the Top 12. This week, his cover of “Against All Odds” hit number three on the iTunes R&B/soul chart. But he still found himself standing alongside Korin Bukowski as one of the bottom two vote-getters when results were announced Tuesday night.

Korin got the instant save from viewers, eliminating Mark from the competition.

Among the other topics Mark touched on during a Wednesday conference call with the media were the following.

* Mark said he expected to have to sing his save song — “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” — Tuesday night and had been working on it all day. “But I thought I had a chance,” he said. “I did not think I would be going home.”

* He said he was thrilled to be a member of Team Pharrell throughout the competition. “Pharrell is one of the most incredible, amazing individuals I have ever worked with or even met,” Mark said, adding he felt a special bond with his coach. “I don’t know if I would have had that with anybody else.”

* One of his favorite memories was working with Rihanna. “She was so knowledgeable. I didn’t know she would come in the way she did. She came in kind of cracking the whip on us. That was amazing.”

* Next week — get this — Mark was preparing to sing a country song. “I was going to show America a completely different side of me. I was excited to do that. But that day did not come.”

And he offered a simple piece of advice to aspiring singers who follow him to The Voice stage.

“The most important thing is to sing with your heart. My heart got me through this competition. I just have a love for this, a hunger for this, a passion for this. Sing from the heart and everything else will be fine.”
