Adam Curry, of the Chicago band Bright Kid, auditioned for American Idol Season 18

American Idol kicks off Season 18 with an audition episode on Sunday, Feb. 16.

And among the artists announcing they have auditioned is Adam Curry.

Here’s more about Adam.

* He recently kicked off a new solo project called Socials. In fact, he released a debut single under that name last weekend called “Oxygen.” You can check it out below.

* Adam describes Socials as “a collective that is inspired by the desire to make honest and vivid music — all with the intention of bringing people together.”

* As for the music, Adam says it’s a combination of heavy guitar driven sounds and 1980s synth-pop influences.

* He was previously part of a Chicago-based alternative band called Bright Kid, which was also known as Owens Room at one point.

* The band had been pretty busy since the 2018 renaming. Bright Kid released a series of five singles that include: “Will You Stay,” “See It Through,” “Insatiable,” (all 2018), “Find You” and a double single called “Thought by Now.”

* Adam provided lead vocals on all those tracks; his wife Ali provided backing vocals on “Will You Stay” and “See if Through.”

* And writes Adam on Instagram: “It’s a joy being able to do what I do. Playing music for those who want to listen (and some who don’t), developing friendships and relationships with others even if it’s only for a short time, and making people feel known and loved to the best of my ability. I want my songs to point to something greater than just myself and to hopefully break down the walls that can divide us. We are stronger together. Now go love someone.”

* Adam announced his audition Jan. 13, showing off the Idol contestant sticker he accidentally tore in half.
