His blind audition: Alex Guthrie, 25, of Marietta, Ga., performed “Love and Happiness.” He was well into his Al Green cover when a big note near the end of the performance prompted a chair turn from Kelly. Gwen soon followed. Kelly liked the “jam session” feel of his performance and the versatility in his voice. Alex opted to join Team Kelly.

Here’s more about Alex.

* He’s an Atlanta-based artist best known for his appearance in an American Family Insurance TV commercial from 2017.

* The commercial features Alex performing Bill Wither’s “Lovely Day” in an Atlanta park. Midway through the song, he’s joined by Jennifer Hudson.

* Alex says he landed that gig by responding to a Facebook ad looking for a guy in his 20s with a soulful voice for “a live event.” Alex told “I genuinely had no idea I would be singing with Jennifer Hudson until she showed up in the middle of that song to sing with me.”

* Alex has plenty of other musical accomplishments he could boast about, including a 10-track debut album called “Lessons Learned” that was released in 2014.

* That album is classified as alternative folk on Apple Music, but Alex says he’s been working on a new album with more of an R&B bent.

* He’s released two singles more recently — “Is It Me” and “Keep on Talking,” which he bills as a song about conflict resolution that you can dance to. Check out the latter below.

* Alex has also performed the national anthem for the Atlanta Braves and, in 2018, was named the most popular “emerging artist” at the Summerfest in Milwaukee.

* He’s also opened for a number of well-known artists, including Voice coach Kelly Clarkson. He never met Kelly, but heard from a radio host that she said he had the “voice of an angel.”

* According to his Voice bio, Alex started playing guitar at 12, started gigging at 16 and once helped supplement his income by breeding snakes.
