Her audition: Teresa Guidry, 22, of Charleston, South Carolina, auditioned with Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush.” Her performance was part of a montage package, so we saw only a tiny snippet. She got chair turns from Blake Shelton and Adam Levine and opted to join Team Blake.
Her background: Her bio on The Voice website says she’s one of 10 siblings and grew up with Christian missionary parents. The family traveled throughout Europe before settling in South Carolina. Teresa’s dad taught her guitar, and she eventually moved to Nashville to pursue music. She works as a waitress at the Whiskey Kitchen to pay bills and performs whenever possible.
What the show didn’t show:
On her Facebook bio, Teresa says she’s been singing since age 5 and got that guitar from her father when she was 15.
She says she’s been a singer/songwriter for about eight years. She’s a graduate of Rock Hill High School in South Carolina and made that move to Nashville about two years ago.
In 2013, she released a five-track country EP that sounded a lot like early Taylor Swift. Teresa said she had it pulled down because it was made in a home studio and “is so different than the style of music and direction that I’m going now.”
“Moving to Nashville was the game changer for me,” she says. “I met so many talented writers and musicians, and with that, I grew and became better. My writing, singing, and just overall artistry improved. I kind of became the person I was looking to be. I love country music and that’s definitely the route I’m going. My music has a little sass to it at times but that’s just me putting my personal taste into to make it more interesting and enjoyable for myself and my listeners.”
Teresa says she has “a little handful of songs that I’m really proud of” that she intends to put on an upcoming EP. “I think that once this project is finished that it could be a big door opener for me.”

As for the blind audition we didn’t get to see? “I think overall I was happy with my performance, but I was of course feeling a bit nervous. I could see the back of Blake’s head leaning over in his chair listening really hard, so that’s just what I focused on. Right at my big note at the end that’s when both chairs turned around, and I think the look on my face in the montage says everything.”
Teresa said she always figured she’d pick Blake as her coach if the opportunity was there. But Adam made her think hard about that decision. “Adam was fighting really, really hard for me … He’s Adam Levine. Looking me in the eye saying, ‘Please pick me, Teresa.’ That was the hardest part. But as hard as that was, I just had to center myself and go with my gut. Blake has done so many great things for country music, and that’s what I want to do too.”
