Berritt Haynes is among the singers to announce they auditioned for Season 21 of The Voice.

The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20. Here’s more about Berritt.

* Growing up, Berritt was active in soccer, football and baseball. But at age 8, he was diagnosed with a heart disorder and discouraged from participating in contact sports.

* So the Pell City, Alabama, youth began taking guitar lessons and participating in BB shooting competitions.

* He won so many honors for BB shooting that in 2013, at age 11, he was named the ASF Foundation Male Athlete of the Year, an honor he received from then Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley.

* The music has gone pretty well too. Berritt wound up participating in the Pell City High School marching band and leading worship at Seddon Baptist Church.

* He also performs as an acoustic singer-songwriter and has covers by Eric Clapton, John Mayer and Ed Sheeran on his YouTube channel.

* As for the heart disorder, Berritt had to have an internal cardiac defibrillator placed in 2017, then underwent open heart surgery in 2019.

* He recovered quickly and was back to performing just five weeks later at Seddon Baptist Church.

* Berritt hasn’t released music yet, but has been working on originals with Jerry Wolfe and played one called “Sidewalks of Birmingham” on God’s Country 90.9 FM in January. He was 18 at the time.

* Since then, Berritt has won a songwriting competition and participated in the Kowaliga Idol competition. Oh, and Season 21 wasn’t his first audition for The Voice judging from a Facebook post by his mom.
