His background: Biff is worship leader at a church in Denver and also runs a small organ and tissues transplant foundation where he works with potential donors and recipients. He has five children and, at the time of the Voice audition, his wife was pregnant with child number six. He says his style is very soulful. “I call it life music. Music that just reaches out and grabs you.” During the Gulf War, both he and his brother were in the military, and Biff says his brother kept him out of harm’s way.
On choosing Usher: “My mind just kept going back to Season 4 of The Voice and just watching some of Usher’s techniques and how he guided artists like Michelle Chamuel all the way to the finals. And that mixed with a little bit of prayer — I was praying and just asking the Lord to help me make the right decision. And what I landed on was Usher. He didn’t really have a lot to say, but what he said impacted me.”
What the show didn’t show: Back in Denver, Biff is music minister at Highline Community Church. He performs around the area as Dr. Biff and the Smokehouse Blues Band. If you’d like to hear some of his original music, head to this page on ReverbNation. In his Voice video, he said the fact that Usher turned around last also helped him make his coaching decision because he figured Usher was holding out to hear something special in his voice before spinning his chair.
Quote: “I love watching shows like The Voice, but I’ve never been one to get in contests like that because you wind up getting your feelings hurt,” Biff told 103. The FOX in Colorado. “But I figured, at my age, what do I have to lose? I have a great family. I live in the best city in the world. And I have a job where I get to sing every single week. So there was nothing to lose.”
On iTunes: His audition song, plus a single called “How Priceless” that was released in November.
Update: He lost to T.J. Wilkins in the first battle round; they sang “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” Biff was then stolen by Blake Shelton. Biff was eliminated in the second battle round when he was pitted against Sisaundra Lewis, who also turned four chairs in the blind audition. They sang “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World.”
