His audition: Chavon Rodgers, 23, of Ada, Okla., performed “Driver’s License” by Dan Nigro and Olivia Rodrigo. John Legend turned quickly. When Chavon showed off his range, Ariana Grande turned as well. Ariana said she loved the journey of his performance. John liked his Jeff Buckley sort of tone. Chavon decided to join Team Ariana.

More on Chavon:

* He’s one of eight children, and they all have names that begin with C.

* Chavon grew up in Ada, Oklahoma, the hometown of Blake Shelton.

* In fact, Chavon arrived at his blind audition with a commemorative Ada brick as a gift for Blake.

* But Chavon told his hometown newspaper there’s no guarantee he would have chosen Blake as his coach if he had turned because he’s also a fan of the two coaches who turned, John and Ariana.

* Chavon hails from a musical family and, according to his Voice bio, they spent a lot of time performing as a family band at a church where his dad was pastor.

* They later moved to Tulsa because his dad changed jobs, and Chavon went to college with plans to become a physical therapist.

* But his wife Pheobe has continued to urge him to following his dream of a career as a musician.

* So while he works part-time as a county clerk, Chavon also performs with cover bands and plays guitar for local artists at their shows. He also works for two churches, Life Church and Owasso’s First Church in Tulsa.

* He describes himself as an alternative pop artist.

* “Ever since I was like 13, I have always wanted to create a career out of music,” he told Tulsa World. “It’s just what I have an aptitude for and I think that’s what I’m supposed to be doing.

*” I didn’t really ever think it was something I could realistically pursue,” he added. “That’s why I started going on that path toward physical therapy. That’s a stable job and something I could support myself and my wife with. She was the one that encouraged me otherwise, that I should just pursue my dreams and do what I want to do.”

* Chavon was eliminated in the battle round following a match with David Vogel. Ariana went to hug him in condolence, but he kept walking and she wound up hugging Kelly Clarkson instead. It certainly wasn’t meant as a snub, judging from Chavon’s Instagram page where he praises Ariana as “a wonderful, kind, genuine, and caring human.”

* He adds: “Ps: I am so sorry I’m blind. I will make up for that hug I missed the first chance I get.”
