Geena Fontanella, an L.A.-based pop artist, auditioned for American Idol Season 18

And L.A. based-singer Geena Fontanella is among the talented singers who have announced they auditioned.

Here’s more about Geena.

* She’s an independent pop artist who has already released music, to the tune of five singles in 2019 alone.

* In a June interview with Voyage L.A., Geena said she hails from a musical family, but was a tomboy growing up and thought it was too “girly” to sing.

* That changed once she reached high school and performed a solo in a choir. That’s when, Geena said, she realized “there’s nothing I’d rather do.”

* She spent three years performing in Nashville, according to an Instagram video, performing about 125 shows a year and loved it, she says.

* But Geena says she couldn’t take it “to the next level,” so she returned home to California — L.A. in this case, to continue to pursue her ambitions in music.

* She’s since toured Indonesia and New Zealand as well as performed at the Peppermint Club and Hotel Cafe in L.A. and got involved in doing more studio work.

* Realizing it’d been a while since she’d toured extensively, Geena challenged herself with a 30-shows-in-30-days schedule in September and October and documented the experience with social media videos.

* As for those singles, they include “Trip,” “Diamonds” and “Hate This City” and featured vocals on “Wrap Me Up,” “High Hopes” and “Antidote.” I’ve embedded the excellent “Diamonds” below.

* And here’s how Geena describes herself and her music in that Voyage LA piece: “I think most people really know me for the streak in my hair and the space buns (lol), but I’d like to think the reason I connect with people is because my music is so raw. I kinda just lay it all out there. For me, I’m a little tired of music acting like sex, drugs, and rock n roll, are the ways of having a bomb life. There’s so much more than that.”
