The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 25 with a coaching quartet of Reba McEntire, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan.
Here’s more about Jacquie.
* She released her first solo single, the impressive “Fire on the Mountain,” in June. You can check it out below. Says Jacquie: “They sing about broken hearts, I sing about avenging them.”
* That song is likely part of an EP Jacquie’s been working on, judging from a recent interview with Goathead Records.
* In that interview, Jacquie says her music is mostly inspired by Fleetwood Mac and the sounds of the 1970s, mixed with modern emotion. “The biggest challenge for me is that I sometimes go too deep and get too dark.”
* That first solo single is hardly her only released music. She’s fronted a band call Lace + Thorn that released six singles between 2019 and 2022. The most popular on Spotify is “Medicine Man,” released last year.
* In a May Facebook post, Jacquie refers to a traumatic childhood experience that affected her self-confidence well into adulthood.
* She’s now in a much better place, she writes, partly because she has a daughter she needs to teach to be self-confident and “feel beautiful always.”
* Adds Jacquie: “Music, singing and performing is who I am and who I was always afraid of being. Not anymore. Big things are coming and I can’t wait to show you the REAL me.”
* Jacquie Roar is a stage name, and The Voice will not be her first foray into a televised singing competition.
* She was Jacquie Cera from the Portland, Oregon area when she appeared on Season 11 of American Idol.
* Idol aired her Hollywood Week group round performance of Boston’s “More Than a Feeling.” That was a season in which several of the Hollywood Week contestants came down with a flu bug. Jacquie fainted at one point, but insisted on performing. She and most of her group members were eliminated.
* She’s been busy performing ever since. Other career highlights include singing prior to concerts by Alan Jackson, Martina McBride and Kelsea Ballerini and singing the national anthem for the Portland Trailblazers.
* Jacquie wound up making it all the way to the finals thanks to an impressive version of Heart’s “Alone” that earned her the instant save on semifinals results night. She finished fourth and appears to have formed an especially close bond with fellow contestants Bias and Huntley, referring to her and those guys as “the three amigos.” After the finale, she wrote that she and Bias will be releasing music and guaranteed a Huntley-Jacquie duet will come at some point in the future.
* As for the show’s outcome, she had this to say: “@huntleymusic deserved this win. His voice is literally insane! He is an absolute legend of a human being. Most of all, he is a good friend. Watch out for the Three Amigos reunion. Congratulations to you Huntley. Don’t feel guilty. There had to be a winner and I’m glad it was you because I invested a lot of time braiding that hair.”
