His audition: Nelson Cade III, 27, of Anaheim, Calif., performed “Pride and Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Nelson’s rasp had John Legend facing in his direction in a heartbeat. The rest of the coaches soon followed so they could watch one of the night’s most fun, professional performances. That ending. Wow. Nick, however, was blocked by John, taking him out of the running. Nick said he could probably win the competition. John complimented Nelson on the “golden, honey-dipped vibe” in his voice. Kelly also loved Nelson’s personality. Nelson decided to join Team John.

Here’s more about Nelson.

* In his website bio, he writes that he began classical training on piano in first grade and continued into middle school when he was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts.

* He wound up attending Anaheim High School and says he taught himself to play guitar while walking to and from school. Singing came after that.

* He attended Fullerton College as a performance music major from 2011 to 2014.

* And he says he’s been a professional musician since 2017. He says on his website that his career really started when he was walking by a farmer’s market in downtown Los Angeles, guitar in hand, and was asked if he’d perform there.

* During his blind audition, he mentions performing with Stevie Wonder last year. That happened last May when he was played a weekly gig at the Skylight Gardens in Westwood and was told Stevie was in the restaurant. So he launched into a Stevie Wonder tribute.

* He’d played “Isn’t She Lovely,” then received word that Stevie wanted to join in the performance. They wound up playing together for about 35 minutes and chatting for another 30.

* Nelson told a local TV station the encouragement he received from Stevie confirmed that he was on the right career path. “I know this is what I’m supposed to do, any doubt that I had, I can’t continue forward with doubts, I don’t have the right to anymore,” he said.

* Nelson hasn’t released music yet, but says in the website bio that he’s writing music and working on a debut EP.
