The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20. Here’s more about Samara.
* She’s was born and grew up in the Bronx and began singing at age 5, according to an interview on Open BxRx.
* The reason for the November 2020 interview was the premiere of Samara’s debut single, “You Don’t Know How to Love.”
* It’s a song Samara said she’d written years before, but got a chance to prepare for release because the pandemic had put a pause on live performances.
* The song has yet to hit streaming sites, but Samara has been performing it live. You can check out one of those performances below. Samara told Voice Views she still plans to release it and also plans to include it on a feature EP.
* She’s the sister of Amanda Brown, a Top 6 finisher on Season 3 of The Voice.
* She has a background in musical theater, plays guitar and piano and has performed extensively in the New York area.
* Samara has also performed with event bands through New York City-based Element Music.
* Music has also taken her to Moscow, where she performed with a jazz trio, as well as Spain, Morocco, China and Indonesia.
* Samara says she developed the most during the three years where she spent months performing in Ibiza, Spain, a gig that required her to sing four hours per day.
* “It was brutal on the voice,” she told Voice Views, “but I learned a lot about having to save my voice while still giving powerful, energetic performances. It loosened me up, and the other singer there with me my first year taught me how to connect more with the audience and to be less afraid.”
* The Bali, Indonesia gig involved performing at a five-star hotel as background singer for Jermaine Paul, Season 2 champ of The Voice. “He was super fun and talented and working with him was an honor!” Samara says. “Plus the atmosphere of the hotel and the beautiful country of Indonesia was like being in paradise.”
* Writes Samara on Instagram: “I have many secrets. I blab a lot, but I rarely speak out loud the true thoughts I have about myself. I may have my rough edge moments, but I’m really just a big marshmallow on the inside, gradually trying to change how I think and speak about myself.
* “All I really want for myself is to love and be loved,” she continues. “To be honest, to be wise, to be assertive, to be perceptive and passionate about my dreams in life. Coming to realize now that what I’ve been doing is not enough for the goals I want to achieve. Small words and less actions will never help you succeed at even bigger dreams.”
