Omar Cardona snags save and final spot in Voice finale

Omar Cardona snagged the final spot in the Voice finale by earning the final instant save of Season 22 Tuesday night.

During Tuesday’s results show, The Voice announced the four finalists advancing because they were top vote-getters after Monday’s semifinals.

The group included Morgan Myles of Team Camila and Bodie, Bryce Leatherwood and Brayden Lape of Team Blake.

That left Justin Aaron of Team Gwen and all three members of Team Legend, Omar, Parijita Bastola and Kim Cruse to perform for the instant save.

Here are those performances.

Gotta say, listening to them merely strengthened my belief that only one member of Team Blake — Bodie — belonged in the finals.

Parijita Bastola, “To Make You Feel My Love” by The Beatles — This song choice might have been a bit too laid back for the occasion, especially since Parijita wound up singing first. But she did a really nice job with it. I’m not sure what type of music Parijita will release post-Voice, but I’ll be eager to hear it. Grade: B+

Kim Cruse, “All By Myself” by Eric Clapton — Yet another reminder of what a talented vocalist Kim is. Add her to the long list of female R&B singers who have been underappreciated by Voice viewers. From my standpoint, the finals will seem empty — and a whole lot less legit — without her. Grade: A

Justin Aaron, “Made a Way” by Travis Greene — Yep, Justin brings oodles of vocal firepower and passion to the stage every time he performs, and did it again here. It didn’t work quite as well as his gospel performance on Top 13 week, so I wasn’t shocked that he fell short when it came to the instant save. Grade: B

Omar Cardona, “You and I” by Lady Gaga — Mr. Hit and Miss with the song choices scored a hit here. I wasn’t sure how much I would like it when Omar started singing. He tends to be a little too theatrical for my taste. But after a softly delivered line at the one-minute mark, Omar absolutely soared vocally and dramatically. That, folks, is the way you earn an instant save. Well done, Omar. Grade: A–
