The Voice Top 10 return to the stage for a two-hour show Monday night at 8 p.m.
Check back then. I’ll be blogging live and providing song-by-song grades.
And if you want to check out the social media numbers for the Top 10, head here.
Meanwhile, here are this week’s rankings on The Voice. Last week’s ranking is in parenthesis.
1. Sawyer Fredericks, Team Pharrell (1): I was a little shocked to see Kimberly Nichole’s name on top of Sawyer’s on the iTunes chart after last week’s show. It didn’t last, of course. When the dust settled and the voting ended, Sawyer was sitting at number two, Kimberly at number three. For the record, I had Sawyer’s performance as last week’s fourth best.
2. Joshua Davis, Team Adam (2): Hey, The Voice, we’re eight seasons into the show. Isn’t it time you fixed the sound mix so the singers are drowned out so often by the backing musicians. That’s what happened during part of Joshua’s performance of “America” last week. I still think he’s the kind of musician America will support over the the course of the finals.
3. Meghan Linsey, Team Blake (7): Yep, I had her all the way down at number seven last week. Then she returned to her country roots on “Girl Crush” and magic happened. The big question this week: Will Meghan and Blake continue down the country path? They should, because pairing Meghan with a country song she can pour a little soul into just might be a winning combination.
4. Kimberly Nichole, Team Christina (5): Anyone shocked by her remarkable performance of “House of the Rising Sun” last week should not have been. She is, after all, the Rock Ballerina. And she did perform five times a week at “The Box,” an exclusive New York club, prior to the show. Keep on serving up the rock songs, Christina. And keep on encouraging Kimberly to attack them with reckless abandon.
5. Corey Kent White, Team Blake (3): Honestly, his performance of Jason Aldean’s “Why” last week was among the most forgettable. But he’s the only male country singer on a show where voters love male country singers, so that will probably buy him a week or two to come through with another special performance like he delivered in the knockout round. Note to Blake: Quit searching for bad boy Corey.
6. DeAnna Johnson, Team Adam (4): She needed a save to survive last week. And her social media support has soared since then. If she can control her nerves and Adams serves up the right song, I think she could escape the bottom this week. And does anyone else see a future in Christian music for this young lady with the model good looks? She’s been at the top of the Christian chart the past two weeks.
7. Hannah Kirby, Team Blake (9): The show is called The Voice, but there’s something infectious about Hannah Kirby when she hits the stage. She needed a save to make the finals. She was forced to sing first on Top 12 night. By all rights, she should have been singing for a save at the end of Tuesday’s show. Yet her version of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen” was so good, she was voted straight into the Top 10.
8. India Carney, Team Christina (6): I still think India’s got one of the best voices on the show. I thought Christina’s song choice (“Take Me to Church”) was a bold one. And India turned in a solid performance. But it wound up being only the third best on her own team because Kimberly and Rob Taylor burned up The Voice stage. This will be a critical week for the aspiring R&B/pop star.
9. Koryn Hawthorne, Team Pharrell (12): I think you could fairly label her the show’s biggest Season 8 surprise so far. She has tackled “How Great Thou Art” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” in consecutive weeks and done an amazing job with both. How’s that for versatility? But she’s still among the least experienced of a very, very talented cast.
10. Rob Taylor, Team Christina (11): How does he top that frenetic, unbridled performance of “I Put a Spell on You?” It was Rob’s best of the season. He lands here only because he needed a save to make the finals, and only because he has one of the smallest fan bases of any remaining singer on the show based on social media numbers.
