Seven singers turned all four chairs during the Season 8 auditions on The Voice.
Only one made it all the way to Monday’s finals.
Forty-eight singers chose coaches during Season 8 of The Voice.
Only one made it all the way to the finals with his or her original coach.
All of which should make for a pretty suspenseful finale, except for one thing.
The exception in both cases above is Sawyer Fredericks, and he enters this week’s two-night finale on The Voice as the heaviest favorite the show has ever had.
Is there anyone out there who does’t believe he’ll win when the results are announced Tuesday night?
Here’s my ranking of the contestants heading into Monday’s show.
Follow the links, and you’ll be able to see how each artist has performed on iTunes throughout the show and watch video of all their performances on The Voice.
And be sure to check back Monday night for a live blog with song by song grades.
1. Sawyer Fredericks, Team Pharrell (1): He’s been in the top spot all season. Little wonder. His cover of “Man of Constant Sorrow” was the most successful blind audition song. More recently, he’s reeled off seven straight songs that made it to the Top 10 on iTunes. The best thing: In his new Voice video, Sawyer still sounds as humble as when he started the show, saying he’s jUSt “so happy people are enjoying the music I’m making.” And he says he tries not to think too much about what will happen after the show “because it freaks me out a little bit.”
2. Meghan Linsey, Team Blake (2): Other than Sawyer, she’s the only remaining contestant who hasn’t been forced to sing for an instant save. Besides Sawyer, she has the most songs that have cracked the iTunes Top 10. And she and Blake have made some very astute song choices — most recently, “Amazing Grace” and “Tennessee Whiskey.” But can she pull an upset and give Blake his fifth title in eight season? It’s doubtful. Nevertheless, Meghan credits The Voice for instilling the confidence she needs to pursue a solo career after her previous time in the spotlight as a member of the hit country duo Steel Magnolia.
3. Joshua Davis, Team Adam (3): On Top 10 week, he had to sing for an instant save to remain on the show. But he’s been solid and hasn’t landed in the bottom since, something we rarely see on The Voice. His only Top 10 iTunes hit has been Top 8 week’s “Fields of Gold,” which he also calls his favorite performance because “it felt real. That was the first time on the show, when I felt totally genuine and in the moment.” Don’t expect anything flamboyant from Joshua in the finals; that’s not his style.
4. Koryn Hawthorne, Team Pharrell (4): She’s actually the only artist to best Sawyer on iTunes. It happened on Top 10 week when she hit number three with “Make It Rain.” She’s also the most unlikely of the finalists: Pharrell saved her from elimination twice before Voice voters became captivated with the intensity and emotion she brings to every performance. She credits a lot of her success to Pharrell. “We have a lot of similarities — the church background — we click in that way. Just musically, he understands me.”
