New post-Voice releases this week include singles from Ricky Duran, Will Breman and Meg & Dia.

Here’s a bit about each of those releases.

The links take you to the songs on Apple Music.

Ricky Duran from The Voice Season 17

* Ricky Duran, runner-up in Season 17, released a personal new song called “Waiting for You” on Friday. Ricky lost his dad to suicide in 2012 and wrote the song years ago “as if my dad was talking to me, maybe things he’d say to me if he could.” The topic “makes it a tough song to perform,” he adds, “but I feel like it’s a song that has to be heard.” Half of the first week’s proceeds from sales of the song will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It follows “Selfish Love,” “She’s Not the One” and “Star” as Ricky’s fourth single this year.

Will Breman from The Voice Season 17

* Will Breman, Top 8 in Season 17, drew on a personal experience of a different sort for his new single “Tried.” Seems an ex wrote him a song and insisted he listen to it. “It was alright,” Will recalls on Instagram, “but I couldn’t help noticing some recurring lyrics — lots of ‘I tried and I tried’ and ‘It wasn’t meant to be.’ The next day I found out she cheated on me. So much for trying and trying. I wrote this song in the hour-ish after hearing the news.” Will had a big week. In addition to releasing the single, he sang a song with Voice coach John Legend during his show at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

* Meg & Dia dropped a wonderful new song called “Holes” on Friday. As in “we’re all holes left in each other / we’re lost souls, tied up together.” They wrote the song with Tyler Lyle. Dia, of course, is Dia Frampton, runner-up in Season 1; Meg is her sister. They performed together for years before Dia auditioned for the show, then reunited as a musical duo in 2019. They released an album called “happysad” last year. “Holes” followed “Break Me In” and “Wherever I Go” as the duo’s third single of 2021.
