Music has taken Samara Brown around the world.

This year, music took her to The Voice stage for an audition before the show’s four celebrity judges.

That would be the same Voice stage her sister Amanda graced back in 2012 en route to a Top 6 finish on Season 3.

Samara had no trouble following in her sister’s footsteps, earning quick chair turns from John Legend and Ariana Grande for her performance of “Sweet Thing.”

The 32-year-old from Bronx, N.Y., opted to join Team Legend. Samara talks about her blind audition experience below.

Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for Season 21 of The Voice? Had you considered auditioning or tried auditioning before?

Samara: I decided to audition because I was going through a hard time with Covid-19 at the time, as we all were. I had to leave my apartment and move back into a family home. I wasn’t working because all my gigs were canceled as well as my opportunities to record music due to Covid-19.

I had wanted to audition for The Voice for a long time and I needed something that was going to keep my chin up while at the same time get my name out into the world. I saw an ad on my Instagram and decided to audition and the rest is history.

I have never auditioned before but I have always considered it.

Voice Views: Why did you decide to perform “Sweet Thing” for your audition song?

Samara: I decided to perform “Sweet Thing” because it’s such a powerful and classic song. It’s popular and it’s sensual and it’s a challenging song, so I wanted to show that I can perform a song like that and perform it well.

Voice Views: How would you describe your blind audition experience?

Samara: My blind audition experience was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!! There was a flood of emotions and thoughts running through my mind from John Legend and Ariana Grande turning for me, to the crowd cheering for me on national television, to me thinking about my whole journey I’ve taken throughout my life just to get there. I wanted to cry, I wanted to laugh, and I wanted to pass out from exhaustion lol. I will definitely remember the experience for the rest of my life!

Voice Views: And why did you decide to join Team Legend?

Samara: I chose Team Legend because I’ve been following him and his talent for so long. He’s an incredible musician, singer, songwriter and composer and I connect with his music and his energy so much as an artist. I chose him because I’m hoping to learn from him as much as I can on the industry and what’s is like being an original artist within the industry.
