Scotty McCreery has recorded his third straight number one country hit.

“In Between,” which first hit the Billboard charts in April 2019, completed a long, slow climb to the top of the country airplay chart this week.

It took the last step in memorable fashion, jumping from number eight to number one.

That’s the biggest leap to the top since Ricky Van Shelton went from number nine to number one with “Keep It Between the Lines” 1991.

Scotty’s string of number ones began with “Five More Minutes” in 2018 and continued with “This Is It” last year.

All three songs are from his “Seasons Change” album, his first with the Triple Tigers label and his third since winning American Idol Season 10.

Scotty co-wrote “In Between” with producer Frank Rogers, Jessi Alexander and Jonathan Singleton.

“This one is extra sweet!” he wrote on Instagram. “‘In Between’ has been one of my favorite songs since we wrote it in 2015. It was a grind with this song, and that’s what makes it so awesome for it to be on top of the country charts this week.”

As for the song itself …

“Everyone’s not all one thing or all the other,” he said in describing the song. “We all have many facets to our lives and different things we enjoy.

“It’s about knowing who you are and finding what’s right for you. I wrote ‘In Between’ about really finding that balance and being happy with it.”

Scotty’s currently working on his followup album to “In Between.”
