Perhaps more surprising was the news he shared in a phone call to WQRD, a country radio station in Raleigh, N.C.

Scotty plans to go back to Garner High School for at least part of his senior year. Heck, he even thinks he can fit in normally, despite the fame he gained from winning American Idol, despite the fact that he already has one hit single and a debut album on the way (“This Clear Day” hits stores Oct. 4).

“To me, this is how I think it’s going to work out,” Scotty told the station. “For the first couple weeks, maybe, it might be a little weird. But then once all the kids and the faculty and everybody sees I’m still the same old kid, that this show, this stuff hasn’t changed me, I think it will get to somewhat normalcy. … I just want to get back and go to some high school football games. It’s my senior year. You can’t miss out on that stuff.”

It’s a ballad in which Scotty proclaims that girls are trouble, of course. But the chorus ends with the line: “Nobody loves trouble as much as me.”

The song was written by Chris Tompkins and Philip White. Tompkins also co-wrote Carrie Underwood’s megahit “Before He Cheats.”
