Mike Schiavo, from Season 10 of The Voice, released his first post-show single, Without You, on Monday.

What are the biggest benefits of appearing on The Voice?

Well, there’s the friendships made with fellow musicians and the obvious chance to grow your fan base.

And for Mike Schiavo, appearing on Season 10 provided a big-time confidence boost.

After all, his performance of “Talking Body” by Tove Lo turned three chairs. And when he revealed that he’s a big fan of Maroon 5, he wound up doing an impromptu duet of “She Will Be Loved” with Adam Levine.

The video of that audition has been viewed more than 5 million times on YouTube.

“I’ve always been quiet and thought not so highly of my abilities and being on the show with such incredible people, it helps you realize that you are good enough and that you are on the right path,” Mike told Voice Views.

He continues on that path Monday by releasing “Without You,” his first post-Voice single, a catchy upbeat tune produced by Alex Marshall of The Cab. Here’s the link to check out the new single.

Mike says it’s a song he partially wrote “forever ago.” He said he played the guitar riff and hummed the melody for about a year and a half before writing the words for the song.

He finished it post-Voice, as he worked hard to get music to his fans as soon as possible.

“The song is basically showing the experience of being frustrated and torn thinking about a past relationship,” he says. “It’s basically when you are contemplating if you should be with somebody, even though you know 100% in your mind that it’s not a healthy relationship, which I feel like is very easy for people to do.

“I think it’s a great intro to the new music I’m working on and the sound I have.”

And Mike, 21 when he auditioned for The Voice, intends to release more music. In addition to a music video for “Without You” that should drop in a couple of weeks, he’s been working on a five-song EP he hopes to release in late August or early September.

Fans also will have plenty of chances to hear Mike perform his new music live the rest of this month. He’s opening for The Stolen, a New Jersey-based band, on their “I’m So Dead” tour, which opened July 4 weekend in Boston and includes about two dozen dates. They’ll be playing The Smiling Moose in Pittsburgh tonight, in fact.

Mike says he does a solo acoustic set which includes a mix of his new music and his favorites from The Voice.

“Touring with The Stolen has been so fun so far,” he says. “I’ve known these guys for years and we played shows together in New Jersey long before I ever hit The Voice stage. So it’s really cool to be on the road with guys who know where I come from and have been through it all the same as I have.”
