Idols on the Music Chart, Kris Allen

‘Thank You Camellia’ disappears in a flash

That enormous yawn you heard was the public’s reaction to the second album from Season 8 Idol champ Kris Allen.

“Thank You Camellia” was released May 22.

The album debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 and dropped to 105 last week.

Today, it’s gone, after just two weeks on the chart.

Stunning. And it can’t be good news for Kris.

After all, David Cook’s second album spent seven weeks on the Billboard 200. And lackluster sales cost him his recording contract with RCA Records.

Guess who Kris is signed with?

Yep, RCA Records.

“Thank You Camellia” deserved a better fate. It’s short on standout tracks; the first single, “Vision of Love,” is an exception.

But “Out Alive” and “Loves Me Not” are solid tunes, too. And, from start to finish, “Thank You Camellia” is better than Kris’ self-titled, post-Idol debut, which spent about four months on the Billboard 200.

Kris’ Billboard 200 exit probably matches the quickest ever for an album of new material from an Idol finalist.

Earlier this year, Ruben Studdard’s “Letters from Birmingham” debuted at number 72 on the Billboard 200 and was gone within two weeks.

Now that album deserved its fate.

It’s all about promo, folks. The more money you spent, the more people recognize it. This album is more solid effort than Lambert’s cheesy average dancey songs.

Please do not suggest that Kris Allen can compare with Adam Lambert in any way. Lambert is an exceptional vocalist and an amazing live performer. Allen is ordinary and a boring performer.
