If you’re going to be eliminated from The Voice, Tyke James did it in impressive fashion.

He might not have gotten enough instant save votes to survive Top 13 week, but his unique rendition of “(Everything I Do) I Do it for You” was an iTunes hit.

Tyke wound up with the night’s third most successful songs on iTunes, cracking the Top 25 on the overall singles chart and landing at number two on the rock singles chart.

Not bad for a singer who turned just one chair in the blind audition, but advanced all the way to the live shows as a member of Team Adam Levine.

Tyke, from Laie, Hawaii, and 17 when he auditioned, is planning to release original music in early 2019. Here’s what he told Voice Views about that and his time on the show.

Voice Views: Where do you see The Voice experience leading you musically? What are your musical goals / aspirations now?

Tyke: Right now, I just wanna write the best songs that I can and do the most shows that I can. I wanna reach people and touch people’s hearts and make them happy and just do music forever.

Voice Views: As a musician and artist, do you feel you grew/benefited as a result of the show and in what ways?

Tyke: During the show I grew in so many ways, musically, spiritually and as a person. Becoming so close with people from all over the country has taught me so much about people and I’ve grown from that. Hanging out with incredible musicians and singers has helped me to grow musically and vocally. Adam taught me so much as well about being myself and being confident. Adam believed in me so much. And through that I kind of gave myself permission to believe in myself more.

Voice Views: Do you envision releasing new music soon? If so, can you tell me about that? Either what you have planned or what you’d like to do? And what sound fans can expect?

Tyke: I’m going to be releasing a five-song EP in January. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to call it yet, but I have the songs written and I’m working on recording them. After that I plan on touring the country and living in a van I recently bought! I’m so stoked for that.

Voice Views: Which was your favorite Voice performance and why?

Tyke: I really loved singing “Use Somebody” because it just had so much energy and I was jumping and twirling and running and interacting so much with the audience. I remember having the happiest feeling after that performance because I just had SO MUCH FUN.

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?

Tyke: It was amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
