Colton Dixon, Results Shows, Season 11

Why Colton Dixon didn’t get a fair shake on American Idol

10

If I were a Colton Dixon fan right now, I’d be torn between two emotions.

I’d be proud of Colton, because that was one classy exit from American Idol.

First, he apologized to the judges for not being himself Wednesday night, when he turned in two performances that just didn’t measure up to Colton Dixon standards.

Then he thanked the judges for their critiques.

And he vowed to take their lessons with him when he makes his first album.

Then he sang us out with a wonderful vocal true to his faith.

If you didn’t notice, “Everything” had Hollie Cavanagh and Jennifer Lopez in tears.

Phillip Phillips looked darn near incolsolable.

The other emotion?

Well, I’d be a little angry at the folks with American Idol.

Because Colton Dixon didn’t get a very fair shake the last three weeks.

Two weeks in a row, he was forced to sing country duets with Skylar Laine.

This is a guy who wants to sing Christian rock, American Idol.  Not country.

His name isn’t Phil Stacey.  And his name isn’t Danny Gokey.

It’s Colton Dixon and he sang lead for a Christian rock band pre-Idol and he knows the music he wants to make and you’d never be able to foist him on country music.

Even Colton admitted he was a little frustrated when he found out about the second country duet.

If I were Colton, I would have been more frustrated when Ryan turned to the judges at the end of that duet and asked them who did best.

Gee, now, might it be the gal who’s been singing country music all her life?

Then came this week and the Now and Then theme.

That strange rendition of “Bad Romance” is all on Colton.  And it’s the performance Jimmy Iovine found most difficult to swallow.

But the “then” song had to be from the “soul” genre.

Why?  Idol used the same theme last year, and it wasn’t restricted to a genre.

Haley Reinhart belted out “House of the Rising Son.”  Scotty McCreery got to stick with country, crooning “Always on My Mind.”

But this year, soul was required.  The  theme seemed designed for certain contestants (like last week’s bottom three of Elise, Joshua and Jessica) and ill designed for a couple others.

Namely Skylar and Colton.

I’m sure Colton will make that album he spoke of upon leaving Idol Thursday night.

I won’t be surprised if it’s a fine Christian rock album that’s very well received.

And I’m pretty sure Colton won’t grumble about song choices or themes when we interview him tomorrow afternoon.

He’s too much of a class act.

But … well, let’s just say the themes and the song choices could have been a little bit fairer for this class act.

honestly i am so happy Colton is gone. I really want a girl to win this year, and Colton was the biggest obstacle. Phillip is never consistent and after this week and last week it is obvious nobody is really safe and I cant imagine Joshua having much more support when not in the pimp spot. dare i say Skylar/Jessica finale

Colton….America, owes you an apology, not the other way around. Colton had real talent, God given talent. May God continue to bless his future career.

I honestly thought Colton had the biggest chance of winning! I was devastated to see him go. But I should have known better after last year when the same thing happened to Paul. I am officially never watching Idol again, its gone down the pooper.

It was sad to see Colton Dixon go home on AI last night. However, God’s plan for Colton may not have been to win America Idol. Many times the most successful artists from the show are not the winners. (Percentage wise, I believe.) Either way, I will keep him in my prayers. I hope he goes far and that God continues to use this young man for His Glory. It would be awesome to see him in the Christian music scene!

This has to be the most evenly matched Top 7 ever on Idol.

Im actually not very religious at all but Colton was one of the best singers on the show and you have to consider the fact that the point of this show is to make money and get a career and to do that you have to be able to sell records now you have to realize that yes Jessica is a great singer but are a ton of people gonna buy her album? Probably not and same thing with Joshua Hollie etc. really if you think about it Colton is one of the only contestants that could sell an album or even make a hit and if you really think about it most of the people who win ai don’t end up doing anything memorable or popular not that im happy he got kicked off-I cried- I just hope that he makes a career 4 himself and doesn’t let him discourage him (not that I think he will be) and as soon as he makes that album he promised I’m gonna go out & buy it 😀
