Jackie Verna admits to being a bit nervous when she learned what song Adam Levine wanted her and Stephanie Skipper to sing during the battle round on The Voice.

After all, “These Dreams” by Heart fell well outside the country singer’s “wheelhouse.” And she didn’t really know the song.

“I’m a country artist, and Heart is definitely not country,” the 23-year-old from West Chester, Pa., said during a mid-week conference call with the media.

“But I think the whole point of that song choice was Adam met us in the middle a little bit because he picked a version that actually featured Alison Krauss, who is a country artist. Once I heard it and we started practicing it, I was all in.”

So much so, that she’s now advancing to the knockout round as a member of Team Adam.

He chose her as the winner of her battle round. Stephanie, a former Christian artist and member of the duo Copperlily, was eliminated.

Adam also graced Jackie with some pretty high praise once the performance ended, saying he doesn’t think she realizes how great she is as a singer and artist.

“I wanted to fall over on the ground when I heard him say that,” Jackie admitted. “Every time I hear any of them (The Voice coaches) say anything to me about my talent, I’m always taken aback. It’s so crazy to see them taken an interest in us and believe in us.”

The knockout round matches begin airing Monday on The Voice. Winners, stolen and saved artists advance to the Season 14 live playoffs.
