About those singing show ratings bragging rights?

We might have to wait until next spring to determine a winner.

TV By the Numbers has released Monday night’s ratings and reports that American Idol and The Voice tied in the ratings when they were on simultaneously Monday night.

Idol wound up with the night’s highest ratings, a 1.6 among adults 18-49 and an estimated 8.65 million viewers.

You can be sure, ABC will blow that up to seem like a major victory.

But The Voice wound up with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and an estimated 8.61 million viewers.

Remember, the shows weren’t exactly head to head. The Voice Top 4 performance show ran from 8 to 10 p.m.; the American Idol season finale from 9 to 11 p.m.

And, again, when they were both on, they tied.

Still, it’s a pretty impressive feat for American Idol, which went head to head with The Voice on Mondays for seven nights this spring.

Idol got trounced by a three million viewer margin in the first head to head showdown. By the time the seven weeks ended, The Voice was winning by fewer than 1 million viewers.

Idol didn’t do as well Sunday when NBC aired the Billboard Music Awards opposite the Top 3 performance finale.

The Billboard Music Awards drew a 2.4 rating among the 18-49 crowd; Idol just 1.3.
