Dia Frampton goes in a haunting new direction with ‘Blood’

Dia FramptonWhile checking out what the artists participating in The Voice tour have been up to, I stumbled upon a great new song from Dia Frampton.

We haven’t had any new music from Dia since she finished second on Season 1 of The Voice and released her solo album “Red” in December 2011.

Apparently, that’s about to change.

She’s been working on a new EP with friend and film composer Joseph Trapanese. She calls the project Archis and has been performing the new music while on tour with Lindsey Sterling.

Don’t expect pop music. In fact, it seems as though Dia has gone in the opposite direction.

“The entire album is backed by strings, horns, harp … organic, live instruments like you would hear in a movie. It is unlike anything I have ever done before,” Dia writes on her Facebook page.

The first song she’s put out for the public to hear is “Blood.” The accompanying video was unveiled earlier this week.

It might not be pop, but it’s beautiful and it’s haunting.

this interview, Dia told The Music Ninja she had a problem with “the pop world” because she was always being told girls want to hear songs about “strength and power.”

“I always wanted to sing about sad stuff, or painful things, or being afraid,” she says. “They never wanted me to write about that. I believe in strength, but I believe in vulnerability. I’m a very vulnerable person.”

As for “Blood,” she says: “It’s about overcoming something but not coming out on the other end looking like Beyonce. It’s about coming out and having those dark sides with you that you endured along the way.”
