Emily Hough of The Voice Season 15 has released her debut EP

Emily Hough says she had hoped to release music to her fans as soon as her run on Season 15 of The Voice ended.

Turns out, her debut project took a bit longer than expected. But the five-song EP “Glass” landed last month.

And Emily provided fans with a peek at her heart. Most of the music was inspired by Illinois teen’s long-distance relationship with fellow Season 15 contestant Anthony Arya.

“I was a little nervous releasing such a personal piece of me, but it’s impossible for me to write anything that isn’t personal,” Emily, 17, told Voice Views.

“I definitely hesitated a bit, especially opening up to so many people at once, but I figured I’d have to get personal with my music sooner or later, so I chose sooner.”

The decision pays huge dividends. The sincerity in Emily’s songs and vocals make every track on the project playlist worthy.

An example is a song called “Santa Cruz,” written during the break between filming the Season 15 blind auditions and battle rounds.

“I flew home, and after spending a month straight hanging out with Anthony, it was kinda weird being separated all of the sudden,” Emily recalled.

“A lot of people developed very close relationships with other contestants since we were all kinda stuck together for a long period of time. I guess I was just feeling a bit emotional so I decided to write a song about it, and he lives in Santa Cruz.”

The couple are still together. In fact, Emily posted a photo on her Instagram page last week, thanking Anthony for flying 2,000 miles to attend her prom.

And they released a live album in March featuring a mix of covers and original music. Physical copies are available though
Anthony’s website.

“I guess the major thing I’ve learned is just to stop being afraid to express myself, and unapologetically be who I am,” Emily said. “This helped a lot in my writing, and I just plan to keep writing and releasing music.”

Here’s a snippet of “Like the Weather” from “Glass.” But, again, be sure to check out the entire EP. It’s a female singer-songwriter gem.
