By the time Gracee Shriver took the blind audition stage for The Voice Season 17, just two spots remained on the show.

And Gracee prefers country music.

The Voice’s country coach, Blake Shelton, had just completed his 12-member team.

No problem for the 16-year-old from Owasso, Okla.

She promptly turned the chair of the two coaches with spots remaining with her rendition of Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” and wound up with Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson encouraging her to join their teams.

Gracee chose Team Kelly. Here’s what she told Voice Views about her blind audition experience.

Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 17 and what prompted you to do it, especially at such a young age?

Gracee: I have watched the show for years! My family and I are big fans. A lot of the people in my town told me that I should audition, so I went for it! I love music and want to soak up all of the knowledge I can. I knew The Voice would be a great way to do that!

Voice Views: How explained a bit about why you selected “Rainbow” as a blind audition song on the show. Is there anything you’d like to add to what aired? Is that a song you’ve performed often And what was the blind audition experience like?

Gracee: That was the first time that I had ever performed “Rainbow”, but that song has such a great meaning behind it and I couldn’t wait to perform it! The blind audition experience was exciting, crazy, and nerve racking! I learned so much and could not believe that coaches with that much experience would choose to turn for me! I was extremely thankful!

Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Kelly?

Gracee: I decided to join Team Kelly because I feel like she can relate to the contestants and what they go through. She got her start on American Idol, so she knows how we feel. On top of that… she is a phenomenal vocalist and is very knowledgeable about not only performing, but the industry as well!

Voice Views: Did you have any idea that so few spots remained on the show? And did that change your approach at all?

Gracee: Honestly, I knew I was close to the end … but I would have never guessed I was that close! Right before I stepped on the stage, I heard Blake scream that his team was full. It still never set in. I just kept myself focused on my goal, and tried not to get rattled because I had put so much work into it!
