Billboard released its new music charts this morning.
Sitting atop the country singles chart: “Don’t You Want to Stay,” the Jason Aldean-Kelly Clarkson duet.
That makes Kelly just the second Idol to record a single that at some point has reached the top of the Hot 100 and country charts.
Carrie Underwood was the first to accomplish that feat.
Her Idol coronation song, “Inside Your Heaven,” hit number one on the Hot 100. But not on the country singles chart.
Of course, Carrie has been a frequent visitor to that stop since then, including off her most recent album “Play On,” which produced three straight number one country hits — “Cowboy Casanova,” “Undo It” and “Temporary Home.”
Kelly’s number ones on the Hot 100 include “My Life Would Suck Without You” and her Idol coronation song, “A Moment Like This.” Three songs off “Breakaway” — the title track, “Since You’ve Been Gone” and “Because of You” — cracked the top 10 on the Hot 100, but failed to reach the peak position.
Let’s not forget, this isn’t Kelly’s first venture into the world of country duets.
In 2007, “Because of You” was reprised as a duet with Reba McEntire. That version of the song reached number two on Billboard’s country singles chart.
“Don’t You Want to Stay” made its big jump last week, advancing from number six to number two among country singles.
This week, it displace Blake Shelton’s “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” which drops to number four.

I am a huge fan of Kelly Clarkson but I have not listened to Country radio in years so I had not heard this song yet. Anyway I checked it out and I really like it. Thing is I don’t see it as a country song at all. Sounds much more like a Monster Ballad. More rock than anything.
“Don’t You Wanna Stay” is one of my favorite songs by Jason Aldean and I’m so glad that he chose Kelly Clarkson to sing a duet along with him because in my personal opinion, think that Kelly has an amazing singing voice.
