When Kelly Clarkson performed the national anthem Saturday night before game three of the World Series, it wasn’t the first time an American Idol has had that honor.
It’s happened at least twice before.
Idol runner-up Clay Aiken performed the anthem prior to game one of the 2003 World Series between the Florida Marlins and New York Yankees. The Marlins won that game, 3-2.
And season four American Idol Carrie Underwood sang the anthem prior to game three of the 2007 World Series at Coors Field. The Boston Red Sox hammered the Colorado Rockies, 10-5, in the game that followed.
Of course with FOX broadcasting the series, Kelly was a natural selection for the honor Saturday night.
After all, she was the original Idol, and the game marked the first home World Series game for the Rangers.
And Kelly hails from the small town of Burleson, Texas.
And, for your enjoyment, I’ve added videos of the earlier World Series anthem performances by Clay and Carrie.
I’ve also added video of Kelly singing the national anthem prior to the first game at the new Yankee Stadium on April 16, 2009.
Meanwhile, Kelly’s apparently having a great time at the game, and rooting big time for the Rangers.
In a tweet from about three hours ago she wrote: “Yeah! A signed Nolan Ryan baseball! I am in baseball heaven and my brother is so jealous. Haha!”
