Althea Grace from American Idol Season 19

Althea Grace is one of the artists we’re likely to meet when the American Idol Season 19 auditions conclude Sunday night.

Here’s more about Althea.

* She’s a 19-year-old Chicago native who’s already released a good deal of music.

* According to an article in the Northwest Herald, Grace started performing at festivals around her home when she was just 7.

* She released an album called “Running the Show” when she was about 15. It’s still available on Amazon.

* She spent time performing alongside Gabe Burdulis as a pop-folk duo called Future Stuff.

* Future Stuff released a self-titled EP in 2016 and an album (“For the Time Being”) in 2018. One of the duo’s songs, “Act Like You Love Me,” has more than 100,000 streams on Spotify.

* You can find her more recent solo releases on major streaming sites, including a 2017 EP called “Dreamers” and a pair of 2019 singles, “I’ll Try” and “More Than a Woman.” The latter is especially impressive, and you can check it out below.

* Althea says that song “is all about being a woman in the music industry. Countless times I have been talked down to by sound guys. Asked ‘who’s girlfriend’ I am. Asked to ‘show my boobs (they didn’t use the word boobs🙄).’ Told I couldn’t be a guitar player. Told I would always be the singer. Told I had to dress sexy. Told I needed to lose weight. Told I had to dress better. So, this song is for all of the women out there who have heard the same and then some.”

* She’s opened for former Idol standout Bucky Covington and Leann Womack and for the band Los Lobos on many occasions.

* In fact, she was featured on Los Lobos’ cover of The Fear by the Shins, according to her Spotify bio.

* Althea announced her Idol audition in a social media post, encouraging fans to watch the show, adding “you might see me and my tiny sidekick.”

* The tiny sidekick is 2-year-old daughter Lennon, who has tuberous sclerosis, a genetic disorder that causes noncancerous tumors to develop in many parts of the body.
