Madison Watkins of American Idol Season 19

Madison Watkins is among the singers we’re likely to meet on Sunday’s episode of American Idol.

Here’s more about Madison.

* This won’t be her first try at a TV competition show. At 21, she auditioned for Season 11 of America’s Got Talent. She was cut in the second round, despite an impressive cover of James Bay’s “Let It Go.”

* In a 2016 interview, Madison said she had dreamed of performing in front of Simon Cowell since age 13. Though cut from AGT, she said “he assured me that I have what it takes to be in this industry … which was a huge encouragement to me.”

* Madison was born in Arkansas, but now lives in L.A., a fact she addresses in a recent Instagram post, writing: “I love being in LA. I love pursing my dreams… but I live 1,000 miles away from the people who mean the most to me. That’s hard. I feel lonely a lot.”

* That said, she’s made progress as an entertainer, to the tune of nearly 350,000 streams of her music in 2020 on Spotify alone and more than 80,000 followers on Instagram.

* Inspired by Whitney Houston growing up, Madison describes herself as a pop-soul, singer-songwriter.

* Her already released music includes a five-track 2020 EP called “Rooted” (the title track is excellent) and a quartet of singles released in 2019 and 2020.

* She released an addictive new single called “Blinded” last month. It’s accompanied by a high-energy music video. “Flashdance, but make it 2021,” she writes on Instagram. Check out the video below.

* Now 25, Madison’s been singing since she was young and recalls her first performance was in a church musical. “It was the moment I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my career” she said in the aforementioned interview. “The crowd gave me a standing ovation after I sang and it was incredible.”
