Ava August from American Idol Season 19

Here’s more about Ava.

* Just 15, she’s a talented singer-songwriter who attends Dana Hills High School in Orange County, Calif.

* Ava released a fabulous original song called “Daybreak” back in October writing on Instagram that it’s the first song she released on her own, but that she hopes to share more soon. She calls it “a modern day Romeo and Juliet story, without the bad ending.”

* On YouTube she explains that the song “discusses a forbidden love. It is about a boy that I liked, and he liked me too. The one issue was that society didn’t want to see us together. It felt as if the whole world was against our relationship.” You can check it out below.

* “Daybreak” follows 2018’s “Magic” and 2016’s “Gone” as the third single young Ava has released to date.

* In an interview with her school website, Ava said her parents exposed her to lots of different genres of music, that she began singing at a young age and wound perform the national anthem at youth sporting events.

* She began learning piano at age 9 and won a free ukulele on a trip to Hawaii in fourth grade. In fact, she told the site she wrote her first song, “Mermaid Child,” with that ukulele. She’s since picked up acoustic guitar as well.

* And she cites her biggest musical influences as the Beatles, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Shawn Mendes, Julia Michaels and Adele.

* Her biggest performances to date included singing the anthem at a L.A. Kings game and auditioning in front of The Voice coaches in 2019, singing “House of the Rising Sun.”

* Ava had just turned 13 at the time and didn’t turn a chair, but got praise from three of the shows superstar coaches, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Shocked that Ava had so much angst in her vocals at such a young age, Kelly seemed disappointed that she didn’t turn.

* On Instagram, she writes: “Dear music, I will never be able to thank you enough, for always being there for me … In good times and bad times, music has always been my go to.”
