Gabriel Goes of The Voice Season 25

Gabriel Goes is among the artists who auditioned for a spot on The Voice Season 25.

Season 25 begins Monday, Feb. 26, with the coaching quartet of John Legend, Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay.

Here’s more about Gabriel:

* He’s lead singer and songwriter for a Honolulu, Hawaii-based band called Backset.

* Judging from its Instagram page, the band keeps pretty busy with show dates.

* And judging by the music Backset has released so far, the band’s music ranges from pop to rock to reggae.

* That already-released music includes a 2018 single called “This Ocean” and a five-song 2021 EP called “Hi.” Check out “Forever Laughing,” the most streamed song from that EP, below.

* On Spotify, Backset says it takes “influence from groups like Sticky Fingers and adds their Jawaiian soul.”

* “This Ocean” is a particularly apt song title for Gabriel. Judging from his personal Instagram page, he’s an avid surfer.

* He also traveled to Portugal and Brazil last spring, visiting Rio de Janeiro to experience Carnival for the first time.

* His interest in music comes naturally. As he was growing up, his family operated NextDoor, a nightclub and performance space and cornerstone of the arts district in Honolulu.

* Gabriel told The Voice coaches he’s been performing since he was very young and formed his band when he was a freshman in high school.

* He dedicated his Voice performance to his father, a avid diver who died when Gabriel was just 6 years old. Gabriel said his father’s passing has made him for thankful for everything in his life. He certainly received praise from The Voice coaches for the positive energy he brought to the stage.
