Idol returned to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 18 with the coaching trio of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan back intact.
Here’s more about Isaiah.
* He’s a worship leader at First Christian Church in Jacksonville, Ill., where his father Perry is pastor. The church is hosting a watch party Sunday (March 24) to celebrate his appearance on the show.
* He and his wife Anna have a young son and just announced that baby number two is on the way.
* Away from church, Isaiah’s specialty appears to be country music, judging from the covers on his TikTok.
* And among country artists, Chris Stapleton appears to be a major influence. Isaiah has pinned three videos on the page. He covers a Stapleton song in all three – “Sometimes I Cry,” “Either Way” and, of course, “Tennessee Whiskey.”
* Isaiah’s only been on TikTok for about a year and a half, but has more than 1,300 followers and more than 13,000 likes. In fact, he told a local TV station that TikTok is where an Idol producer saw his singing ability, then reached out to inquire if he’d be interested in auditioning.
* In the same interview, Isaiah said music has been part of his life for most of his life. “My dad put a guitar in my hand when I was 4,” he says. He eventually grew into music to the point where he was writing his own songs.
* He announced his Idol audition in early January and has since announced that he auditioned with an original called “What Could I Do.”
* In fact, he released that song the same day as the Idol premiere, Feb. 18. It marked his debut single. He released it under the stage name CASE.
* That said, over the summer, he teamed up with Eyecon Productions to record another original he wrote called “Set Your Eyes on Me.” You can check out the song and Isaiah’s raspy vocals below.
* Isaiah auditioned for American Idol five years ago, but didn’t make it to the judge’s round. Isaiah recently reposted a message he posted to fans when he got that news. “Now I made it to the actual judge auditions???!!!,” he writes. “So excited for the future.”
