Jonathan Mouton from The Voice Season 21

His audition: Jonathan Mouton, 30, Los Angeles, “Leave the Door Open” by Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, Silk Sonic. His smooth vocal delivery enticed a chair turn from John Legend midway through the performance. Ariana Grande later turned as well. John loved Jonathan’s control. Ariana praised his performance as well. Jonathan opted to join Team Legend.

Here’s more about Jonathan.

* The 30-year-old singer from California has been performing for years, but has been especially busy in the past two.

* He starred in the 2020 finale of “Encore,” the Disney TV show that reunites cast members of high school musicals to recreate their performance years later. In Jonathan’s case, that meant recreating a 2008 Santa Monica High School performance of “Ragtime.” Says Jonathan: “We really did put in 13 hour production days to give you guys a show.”

* A choir director, Jonathan was also featured on FOX’s “I Can See Your Voice” last year and got a chance to dazzle with a cover of “Rise Up.” That was after contestants had to guess whether he was a good singer or a bad singer based on clues and a lip sync performance.

* After the show air, he reunited with another singer featured on his episode, Pop Princess Elise Go for a holiday cover of “This Christmas.”

* In May 2021, Jonathan released a four-song EP called “Jonathan.” He also released music videos for all four songs. You can check out “Real Love” below. “Each song was created from a uniquely authentic place in my heart,” Jonathan wrote on Instagram. “Real Love,” he adds, “was inspired by “love and the R&B Legends who continue to shape me.”

* The EP was hardly Jonathan’s first release. Shortly after appearing on “I Can See Your Voice,” he released an official cover of Audra Day’s “Rise Up.” He followed up with another cover, Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open.”

* You might say Jonathan grew up in a musical household. His mother, Lydia, is a vocal coach and he credits her for helping “shape me into the vocalist that I am today.” His mom sang background for a number of artists, including Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

* She heard Jonathan sing at age 4, recognized his potential “and immediately began to train my voice and help me develop my musical ear,” he recalls.

* According to his bio, Jonathan landed a spot on a Glee-inspired musical tour after high school.

* But at age 23, he found a lump on his neck and was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that had spread to other parts of his body. He’s now cancer free.

* Pre-Voice, he was also following in his mother’s footsteps, singing background for Fergie, Chaka Khan and others.
