L. Rodgers of The Voice Season 25

L. Rodgers is among the artists who auditioned for The Voice Season 25.

The Voice returns to ABC on Monday, Feb. 26 with a coaching quartet of John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire and Dan + Shay.

Here’s more about L. Rodgers.

* She calls herself a “queer and autistic songbird” on Instagram. She has the word songbird tattooed on the back of her fingers. And her TikTok handle is realityshowreject.

* Her official bios describe her as an Americana / soul singer-songwriter and sex trafficking survivor from Baltimore, Md. She’s 35.

* As for the reality show reject handle … well, it won’t fit much longer. A clip released by NBC shows Reba McEntire, having turned her chair, telling L. Rodgers: “I was blown away with your vocal … You’re a powerhouse.”

* Reba isn’t joking. Check out L.’s brilliant cover of “Mad World” below.

* That said, L. writes on Instagram that this season marked her 13th time trying out for The Voice. “I went to LA and my airport gate was D13,” she writes on social media. “My lucky number is 13, and it’s time.”

* She also previously auditioned for American Idol, earned a golden ticket, but failed to make the voting rounds.

* So the TikTok handle fit at the time. And her posts have drawn quite a following. To the tune of nearly 300,000 followers and more than 4 million likes.

* In a 2020 interview with Heartthreads, L. — Lindsay is her given name — said she and her parents realized her singing talent when she was a child, enrolling her in The Peabody Institute.

* She also studied at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, then began performing professionally.

* The sex trafficking began when she returned to New York from a summer performing in Alaska. She escaped the relationship and the situation at age 22, then began writing songs as a way of dealing with the trauma.

* You can check out full versions of two impressive originals from L. on her YouTube. The songs are “Emmie the Angel” and “Even Angels Have Their Limits.”

* L. performs regularly. And when Girls Behind the Rock Show sought nominations for Top Female Rockers in 2022, nearly 20 percent of all the nominations received were for L. Rodgers. The organization describes her as “a true self-made artist who lives up to the hype.”
