Her audition: Rose Short, 34, of Killeen, Texas, performed “Preach.” Her intense opening on the John Legend cover failed to turn a chair, but Kelly Clarkson spun as soon as Rose hit the chorus. At which point, Rose unveiled the power in her voice and prompted a chair turn from Gwen Stefani as well. Gwen called her voice “ridiculous” and especially liked the connection she made to the lyrics. Rose opted to join Team Gwen.

More about Rose:

* Rose started singing when she was 5 on the military base in Germany where her father was stationed. She’d often perform at community events there.

* Her family eventually moved to Texas, where she became involved in choir and theater.

* While she loved music, after school she needed a job that paid the bills, so she took one as a corrections officer at a male maximum-security prison.

* She worked that job for eight years before leaving it in 2016 to focus on music again.

* “I was longing to perform. That’s all I could think about,” she told The Voice. “I didn’t go to school. I didn’t have an education. But if I didn’t quit, I was going to lose my mind.”

* Rose is now a full-time musician performing in the Central Texas area.

* In fact, performing as The Rose Short Experience, she has a birthday show set for Saturday at Chiefs Sports Bar back in her hometown.

* An R&B / soul artist, she said she has not released original music yet.

* She told Voice Views her biggest performance prior to The Voice was a performance on Showtime at the Apollo. That was about 10 years ago. Head here to check it out.
