Alexa Cappelli was eliminated from The Voice last week, but says she already has her post-show game plan worked out.

First, she’ll focus on graduation. Then she’ll hit the studio to work on a debut project of original music.

Alexa was just 18 and already a worship leader when she landed a spot on Team Kelly Clarkson for The Voice Season 14.

She wound up advancing all the way to the live playoffs with a string of highly-praised performances, including an odd battle round match in which her partner (Hannah Goebel) dropped out of the competition after they had already recorded their battle song, but before they could perform it on stage.

Here’s what Alexa, from Upland, Calif., told Voice Views about her time on the show and her plans moving forward.

Voice Views: What’s next for you as an artist? And do you envision releasing new music soon? If so, can you tell me about that? Either what you have planned or what you’d like to do? And what sound fans can expect?

Alexa: Yes! I absolutely plan to release music. Once I graduate, I will be spending a lot of my time in the studio over the summer. I’ve been exploring and singing different genres of music, but I see myself heading in the direction of pop or soul. I love songs that tell stories and have a positive message.

Voice Views: How do you think your career — and any music you release in the future — will be affected by The Voice experience? If so, how?

Alexa: I have learned so much from my time on the show and am so thankful for the experience. I will take what I learned with me wherever I go.

Voice Views: During the playoffs, we didn’t get to hear about the thought process behind the song choices. Can you explain yours a bit? And how do you think those performances went for you?

Alexa: I chose “It Hurt So Bad” because I love the soul and grit behind it. It was a great song for me to show my stage presence and range. I chose “Stop and Stare” because it was one that Kelly mentioned to me, and after listening to it with a different ear than before, I knew I wanted to sing it. The lyrics speak so much truth about how sometimes life moves you, even to places you might not want to be, but with faith and hope you can carry on.

Voice Views: What was your favorite performance from the show and why?

Alexa: My favorite performance from the show was “Pray” for my battle. I was disappointed that I couldn’t sing with my partner, but I let myself go on the stage that night and received some of the best feedback from the coaches after that performance. I was able to show a side of my voice they hadn’t heard before and really dug into the story behind the lyrics. As a believer, I too find myself on my knees in prayer in times of heartache, and loved getting to tell that story.

Voice Views: That was a new playoff format this season. What did you think of it and would you recommend any changes for future seasons?

Alexa: I was a little bummed that my California people weren’t able to vote as they were watching the show. It made it that much more of a challenge to make it to the Top 12, because a lot of my support is from the West Coast. I would recommend overnight voting for all rounds of lives!

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?

Alexa: I have had the best time working with Kelly, and the other people on staff. I am so thankful to have been on her team, and to have been in the Top 6 of her 12 that started! She really poured into us, not only as artists, but as people and wanted to get to know us as best that she could. All of the feedback from the coaches was very helpful. I am so excited to get working on new things for fans and my future! God has blessed me with this experience and I am going to continue to glorify Him in it all!
