The audition: Caroline Glaser, 19, of St. Louis, sang “Tiny Dancer” and got Blake Shelton and Shakira to turn their chairs. She picked Team Blake.
Battle Round: Lost to Danielle Bradbery on their rendition of “Put Your Records On.” But Usher and Adam vied to steal her; she chose Team Adam.
Knockout Round: She sang “Little Talks” and defeated Amy Whitcomb, who performed “House of the Rising Sun.”
Live Playoffs: Performed “The A Team” but failed to advance when Adam used his save on Sarah Simmons.
Her background: A freshman at the University of Kansas, Caroline took time off from school to participate in The Voice. She describes herself as an indie-folk, singer-songwriter, but admits she hasn’t done a whole lot musically, singing mostly at a local coffeehouse and open mic nights. “On a good night, 30 people showed up,” she said.
Her original pick of coach: Caroline said she watched Season 1 and loved Blake’s top contestant, Dia Frampton. “He compared me to her. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s amazing.’ And he said something about being a singer-songwriter, and that’s what I am. I just connected with him on that.”
What the show didn’t show: In her post-audition interview, Caroline admitted “it’s kind of intimidating being with all these people with so much exposure and experience with music. It’s crazy that I’m up there with them.” She might not have done much professionally, but head to Caroline’s YouTube channel and you’ll find a wide range of intriguing covers, with a couple of originals sprinkled in. Two of the covers are posted below. In an interview with KSDK.com, her mom says Caroline has had voice and piano lessons. Josh Glaser, her dad, says friends and family had been approaching them, offering sympathetic words because their daughter had dropped out of college, figuring Caroline was just homesick or something. They couldn’t say anything about her participation on The Voice until her audition aired. “Now, you know, we’re going, ‘It was really something pretty good, and we’re really excited about it.'”
Quote: “When Blake turned around, I tried to keep it cool,” Caroline said of her audition. “Then Shakira turned around. I think it was right before I hit the chorus. I had these really great things planned for the song, like these runs that I was going to do, and I made eye contact with Blake, and I totally forgot what I was doing.”
