American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 27. Here’s more about Elliot.
* He’s a Scottish singer-songwriter currently based in New York.
* Born in Stirling, Scotland, he moved to the U.S. at age 18 after receiving a scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and wound up staying. He’s been in the states about 10 years now.
* On his website, he says he’s played Carnegie Hall and the Rockwood Music Hall in New York.
* But he adds that his favorite venue is the city streets. “Nothing makes me happier than busking in Central Park and bringing a moment of unexpected joy to those walking by,” he writes.
* He released a 12-song album called “Handcrafted” in 2020 and has since released two singles, “Sour Cream” and “Owed.” Judging from his Instagram, his follow=up album is coming soon. Check out the excellent “Owed” below.
* Elliot was playing the male lead in “Once,” a musical love story, at the Geva Theatre Center when the pandemic struck, shutting down production.
* With no income coming in, he recorded that debut album in the bathroom of his apartment, playing all the instruments himself.
* He’d also released an EP called “No Good at Growing Up” in 2019. At the time, he said he’d been auditioning for roles on Broadway, “only to barely miss the mark.”
* You might say Elliot got involved in music at a young age. Back in Scotland, when he was 10, he starred as one of five pre-teens who form a heavy metal bank called Hatred in the short film, “Heavy Metal Jr.”
