Kirk Richmond from American Idol Season 20

American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 27. Here’s more about Kirk.

* He’s a Houston-based R&B and neo soul artist who has already released music.

* That includes a 14-song debut album, “Boy Meets Girl,” which was released in the summer of 2020.

* Kirk followed up with a single called “Learning” in September. You can check it out below.

* He’s also a featured vocalist on a single called “Black is Beautiful,” released by Dallas-based artist Uncle Jeff in September. The accompanying music video came out in October.

* In a profile on the Voyage Houston website, Kirk admits that singing wasn’t part of the plan as he was growing up. He began playing baseball as age 3 and dreamed of becoming a professional athlete.

* He continued playing baseball until his freshman year of college. Having grown up in a musical household, that’s when he shifted his focus from sports to singing.

* “I was raised in a heavy church going and music filled family,” he told the site. “Literally, everyone was a musician, singer, or songwriter … Both of my parents were phenomenal singers and musicians, so why not give it a shot?”

* He’s still at it and describes himself as “singer/songwriter who specializes in feeding souls with good relatable RR&B music. I’m known for my soulful sound and unique vocal abilities.”
