Jared Herzog, 21, Niceville, Fla., performed “Speechless” by Dan and Shay. Jared showed off nice range, especially at the start of the country hit. John Legend and Blake Shelton turned almost simultaneously. Gwen Stefanie later turned as well. John praised Jared’s opening and the versatility to his vocals. Jared joined Team John.

Here’s more about Jared.

* On Instagram, he identifies himself as a musician, model and Christ follower, currently living in Cleveland.

* He’s from Niceville, Fla., and is a senior at Lee University, where he’s a captain of the track and field and cross country teams.

* This season wasn’t his first try at The Voice. In January 2017, he posted a cover of James Bay “Let It Go” with Chloe Hamlin, writing: “This was the song we used to audition for The Voice. Unfortunately we never made the callback, but that’s okay, we just let it go.”

* His only other cover on YouTube is of Shontelle’s “Impossible” and his most recent cover on Instagram dates from earlier 2018 (“Transfiguration” by Hillsong).

* That said, he’s been leading a new ministry on the Lee University campus with mentor David Virgo. It’s called “The Well” (aka “The Gathering”) and Jared write extensively about the experience and how it came to be on Instagram.

* According to his bio on The Voice website, Jared started singing in church and eventually began leading worship for the youth ministry.

* That led to participation in his school choir, where Jared competed at the state level for four years in a row.

* As for performing outside a church setting, here’s what Jared told Voice Views: “I have dabbled as a solo artist outside of church. I have sang for weddings, funerals, small gigs at restaurants, and even special events like Relay for Life. It all started when I began to sing the national anthem for a local wrestling tournament in the area. I started singing more and more and began to post covers, as I was instilled with this newfound confidence from all the affirmation I was receiving from these events. The rest is history!”

* His girlfriend, Cree, is a big fan of The Voice, and Jared agreed to audition for the school as a Valentine’s gift for her.
