Kevin Gullage from American Idol Season 20

American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Fe. 27. Here’s more about Kevin.

* He’s a 23-year-old blues musician based in New Orleans.

* He fronts the band Kevin and the Blues Groovers and has performed regularly at the B.B. King’s Blues Club in New Orleans.

* In 2018, he released a five-song contemporary blues EP called “Blues for the City.”

* The title track, which you can check out below, took honorable mention in the 2021 Unsigned Only Music Competition, which received more than 10,000 entries.

* He’s the son of bass player Tony Gullage, who once performed for the Queen of England. Kevin says he was “born into gospel,” and began performing himself around age 6.

* According to his bio, after middle school, he auditioned and earned at spot at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), where he was a standout in the jazz instrumental department.

* Kevin plays piano and other instruments and has been active with bands, first the Kevin Gullage Band, then the Blues Groovers, since 2014.

* In 2017, at age 18, he was selected to perform with the world renown Blues Travelers at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

* Of that experience, Kevin told a local newspaper: “It means so much to me. I got to meet legends, living legends of music. Not just of music performance, but composition, technicality and knowing how to put on a good show and entertain everyone — getting to meet people who do exactly what I want to do.”
