Season 20 kicks off Sunday, Feb. 27, on AMC. Here’s more about Lexi.
* She’s 28, performs solo and is also frontwoman for the Massachusetts-based band Weege and The Wonder Twins, so called because the group includes identical twins Tom and AJ DelNegro.
* They have three albums to their credit, “Marigold” from 2017, “Do I Seem Weird Lately” from 2019 and a 10-song self-title album that came out in June. Check out the fun “Hand to Mouth” below as an example of Lexi’s unique vocals.
* The band’s Facebook page describes their music as “hot jazz and honkytonk with a blues sensibility” and their web bio says they “channel the vintage vibes of The Kinks, Julie London, Bessie Smith, and more.”
* As for Lexi, she’s described as “a true vocal acrobat, leaping from dangerous, sultry growl to playful lilting in a single bound. You would be hard-pressed to find as transfixing a storyteller.”
* Lexi has also released at least three songs minus the band, including “Bucket Truck” and “Let Me” from last year, plus a 2021 collaboration called “Coyote” with J.J. Slater, with whom she often performs.
* Lexi will have a new single called “Hydrangea” out on Feb. 25 and drops hints about “a record later this year” in a recent Instagram post.
* She’s been performing since age 8, according to a 2019 interview with a Rochester, N.Y., newspaper. Her mother was part of a cabaret troupe, and Lexi began performing with them.
* At the time, she said her goal was to perform in all 50 states by the time she turned 30.
* In a recent Instagram post, Lexi admitted to getting so depressed in 2021 “I would just cry constantly,” partly because touring was so limited because of the pandemic. She offers 10 tips for beating the blues, including listening to Paul Simon and to Bob Dylan’s Christmas album.
