Song by song grades for Team Blake on The Voice

0

Seventeen singers took the stage Monday night on The Voice.

By the end of the tomorrow night, only nine will remain.

The top vote-getter from each team will advance. Then each coach will save an artist.

Tuesday’s show will conclude with performances by the next highest vote-getter from each team competing or an instant save.

Who deserves to advance from Team Blake?

Here are my song by song grades:

Anna Grace (stolen in knockouts), “Let Her Go” by Passenger — I recall being a bit disappointed in Anna’s knockout round performance. There was nothing to be disappointed in what she did tonight. It was a smart choice to flip a song we’re used to hearing a male voice on. And Anna’s voice was pure magic for the final minute of this cover. Grade: A–

Cam Anthony (a Team Blake original), “Take Me to Church” by Hozier — Blake said Cam might be the first superstar The Voice launches. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, okay. This was the second straight fine performance from Cam. That, combined with his youth and potential, should put him among the Season 20 front-runners. Here, I thought the performance was a bit better than the vocal, which needed a bit more heft. Grade: B

Jordan Matthew Young (a Team Blake original), “Gold Dust Woman” by Fleetwood Mac — I was prepared not to like this because it’s one of my favorite Stevie Nicks’ songs and I really don’t care to hear anyone else sing it. But Jordan’s rasp made it a natural fit, and he delivered the song with an intensity that made it work. The Team Blake results are going to be interesting, huh? Grade: B+

Peter Mroz (a Team Blake original), “We Belong” by Pat Benetar — Kudos to Pete for taking a Pat Benetar rocker and reworking it in such an interesting way. This flip didn’t work as well as Anna’s for me. But it was another solid performance form Blake’s old pal from Nashville. Grade: B–

Emma Caroline (Blake’s rep in the 4-way knockout), :Leave the Pieces” by The Wreckers —
