Joedi Silvers from American Idol Season 20

American Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 27. Here’s more about Joedi.

* He’s a 19-yar-old retro-country artists, based in Nashville.

* His father, Joe Don Silvers, is a country musician as well, touring extensively in the 1970s and 1980s, including with Hank Williams Jr. He wrote songs for Barbara Mandrell, Charly Pride and Willie Nelson, among many others. He also founded a studio on Music Row in Nashville with his friend, Faron Young.

* In his web bio, Joedi says he started singing at age 3. His dad also had a studio in the basement of their home. “Some of my first musical memories are of joining him in singing ‘Orange Blossom Special’ and ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ in that basement studio,” Joedi says.

* Joedi eventually taught himself how to play his dad’s guitar, and his retro country sound came naturally. In fact, on Instagram and Twitter, he describes himself as “19 going on 57.”

* In December 2018, Joedi posted a video of himself performing an original called “Sleeping Alone” to his Instagram page. The post attracted nearly 500,000 views.

* Encouraged, Joedi decided to pursue a country music career in Nashville. He doesn’t appear to have released music yet through traditional streaming sites.

* But he’s posted “Sleeping Alone” and two other songs — “Sugar Candy” and “Mean Memphis Woman” — to his YouTube channel. Check out “Sleeping Alone” below. And he appears to have released a “Sleeping Alone” EP through CD Baby in 2019.

* Joedi’s also developed a following on TikTok, to the tune of 90,000 followers and more than 500,000 likes.
